While illegal plying of private buses from near the old bus stand at Phase 8 is still on, the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) is all set to auction the site in its next e-auction here.

According to a senior GMADA official, the move would not only bring several crores, but also put an end to illegal operations of private buses.

“The successful bidder, who will invest huge amount to get this five-acre site in the town’s prime location, will do everything to put a stop on the ongoing illegal activity near the site,” the official said.

The site would be put up for sale in the next e-auction, which would most probably be held in November end or December, he added.

Meanwhile, the GMADA authorities have also written to the Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police and the District Transport Officer to check the menace near the site.

“Private buses operating from here cause losses to the company, which manages new Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Inter State Bus Stand at Phase 8. Moreover, plying of buses on internal roads of the town also causes a lot of nuisance and poses a danger to the commuters on these stretches,” the official said.

GMADA had taken back possession of the land after demolishing the old bus stand building at Phase 8 here around seven months ago. To stop buses from entering the site, GMADA had dug up its boundary following which bus operators started functioning from nearby roads.

More than 300 private buses still plying from near the old bus stand site to different destinations cater to hundreds of passengers every day.
