The Ahmedabad crime branch police have booked a case against the Mumbai-based social activist Teesta Setalvad, her husband Javed Anand and others for alleged fraud and cheating on a complaint filed by her one-time aide Raees Khan.
The police said Teesta, the general secretary of the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP), and others were booked under Sections 13 (1)(D) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act as well as under Sections 120 B, 153 A, 153 B, 406, 409 and 420 of the IPC.
According to Khan’s complaint, Teesta and others, who run a voluntary organisation ‘Sabrang Trust,’ received Rs 1.4-crore grant from the HRD Ministry for a project named ‘Khoj’ between 2010 and 2013, but they misused the funds for personal benefits. The involvement of some officials of the HRD Ministry was also suspected.
