A shoe was hurled at Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan when he was delivering a speech at Churhat in Sidhi district on Sunday evening, according to a video footage that went viral on the social media. The slipper narrowly missed Chouhan.
Though the identity of the person who hurled the shoe at the CM is not known, it is rumoured that it was allegedly hurled by upper caste members, who are protesting amendments to the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Earlier, stones were hurled at Chouhan’s bus, modified as a chariot, during the “Jan Aashirwad Yatra” near Patpara village in Sidhi district. The incident occurred in Churhat area in the Assembly constituency of Congress’s Ajay Singh. A group of locals showed black flags to Chouhan when he arrived in the village. He is touring the state ahead of the Assembly polls. The police have arrested nine persons for throwing stones at the vehicle.
In the last few days, upper caste members have sharpened their attack on public representatives. The protesters have targeted two Cabinet colleagues of PM Narendra Modi and senior Congress leaders of the state.
On Sunday, the vehicle of MP Congress chief Kamal Nath was stopped at Ganjbasoda district when upper caste members surrounded his vehicle and raised slogans.
