Chandigarh, December 18
Almost Rs 2 crore was spent on miscellaneous expenses not directly related to late Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s treatment, a news report has said.
The News Minute says in its report that the money was spent on other expenses, although it doesn’t say what these expenses include. Additionally, the report also says that a bill from Apollo Hospitals shows that Rs 1.24 crore was spent on room rent and Rs 1.17 crore on food and beverage services. The report quotes the hospital as telling the Arumughasamy commission, which is inquiring into Jayalalithaa’s death, that the rent was paid for rooms taken by attenders, party leaders, government staff and others.
Jayalalithaa was hospitalised for 75 days in 2016.
The report also says some Rs 44 lakh is still outstanding. The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazagham has claimed that it settled the late chief minister’s hospital bills using its own money.
A government doctor was previously quoted as saying that the late chief minister’s hospital bills have came to Rs 5-55 crore, but the report puts this figure at Rs 6.8 crore.
Jayalalithaa died of multiple organ failure on December 5, 2016. Her death has been a subject of great controversy, with opposition accusing the state government of misleading the public.
