Former Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy on Sunday replaced senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh as the person in-charge of the party’s affairs in Andhra Pradesh.

In an internal party reshuffle on Sunday, Congress president Rahul Gandhi named Gaurav Gogoi as the party’s general secretary in-charge of West Bengal and Andaman and Nicobar, replacing senior leader CP Joshi.

Gogoi is son of fomer Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.

Digvijay Singh was earlier divested of his charge in Telangana and Karnataka.

With Sunday’s order, Singh has no organisational role in Congress, although he was recently made chairman of the coordination committee for Congress in Madhya Pradesh, which is due for elections later this year.

CP Joshi is another party veteran who has failed to deliver electoral victories for Congress in states that he handled, including Assam and West Bengal.

Under Joshi, the Congress has been pushed to a distant fourth in Bengal.
