One killed, 2 injured in explosion at ONGC headquarters

One person was today killed and two others injured when the compressor of an air conditioner exploded at ONGC headquarters here, police said.
Mahipal Khatri, Bipin Kumar and Chandrasagar Uniyal sustained injuries when they were trying to pull out the compressor of an air conditioner at the ONGC’s AC repair workshop and it suddenly exploded due to some technical fault, Cantt police station incharge Kamlesh Namburi said.
They were rushed to ONGC hospital where Khatri was declared dead.
Vipin Kumar and Uniyal sustained minor injuries and will soon be discharged from hospital, Namburi said.
All the three were mechanics working as contractual employees with an AC repair company.
ONGC later announced it will pay an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the next of the kin of the deceased mechanic and meet the entire treatment expense of the injured. — PTI
