A Bihar minister has claimed Lord Shiva belonged to the socially and educationally backward Bind caste.

Brij Kishor Bind left people bemused when he made the statement on Tuesday at a function organised here to felicitate newly appointed Governor Phagu Chauhan, which was attended by senior BJP leaders, including Deputy CM SK Modi.

On Wednesday when journalists approached the minister, he dug in his heels: “I quoted from Shivs Purana to underscore my point. This point is corroborated in a book by historian Vidyadhar Mahajan.” — PTI
