Guj’s Patel statue shortlisted for UK award
Ahmedabad: The Statue of Unity, a memorial to Sardar Patel, in Gujarat’s Kevadia town has been shortlisted for ‘The Structural Awards 2019’ of UK-based Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE). The 182-metre-tall statue was unveiled by PM Narendra Modi on October 31 last year. It is among the 49 structures that will vie for the prestigious award, according to the institution’s website. The awards will be announced in a function in London on November 15. PTI
Jellyfish robot to help record marine life
Indore: The IIT-Indore has developed a prototype version of a robot, which resembles a jellyfish, to capture the marine life through a camera attached to it. Head of IIT Indore’s Mechatronics and Instrumentation Laboratory IA Palani said the prototype robot, weighing 250 gram, has been developed in a way that it marine creatures find it natural and they can go close to it. A soft polymer has been used in its structure. PTI
Jamia Millia Islamia debuts on Twitter
New Delhi: Jamia Millia Islamia on Sunday made its debut on Twitter, a university official said. In April, the university had made its debut on Instagram and LinkedIn. However, these pages were formally inaugurated by JMI’s vice-chancellor Najma Akhtar on Sunday. Twitter handle of the university is @jmiu_official. Its Facebook page has more than 42,000 followers. 8-yr-old goes directly to Class 9 as spl case
Lucknow: Eight-year-old prodigy Rashtram Aditya Shri Krishna has been granted special permission by the UP Board to be admitted in Class 9 directly and will appear in the high school examinations at the age of 10 in 2021 from MD Shukla Inter College in the Nakhas area here. Rules say a student needs to be at least 14 years of age to appear in Class 10 examinations of the UP Board. IANS
