Ganga-Danube festival on India’s heritage starts in Hungary

Starting Friday, people of Hungary will be treated to a unique Ganga-Danube Cultural Festival of India along with a three-day Yoga programme in 15 cities.
For the first time, the historic city of Szentendre, on the banks of River Danube will witness a ceremony of mixing the waters of Ganga and Danube symbolising the confluence of two cultures.
It will be performed amid chanting of Ganga Sutra, Ganga-Danube Aarti and Shanti Sutra, Indian Ambassador Rahul Chhabra told The Tribune.
To mark the International Day of Yoga (IDY), he said, the historic Chain Bridge was lit up with India colours and motifs throughout the night, carrying animated symbols of IDY and Ganga-Danube Festival.
Starting today, the third IYD will be held in 15 cities including Budapest, Balatonfured, Debrecen, Eger, Esztergom, Gyor, Nagykanizsa, Nagykoros, Miscolc, Pecs, Sarvar, Szentendre, Sopron, Szeged and Veszprem.
Five Indian troupes consisting of 35 artistes will perform Raasleela, Mohiniyattam, Kathak, Bharatnatyam, and Sitar recital during the festival.
Eleven Hungarian groups consisting of 50 artistes proficient in Indian classical dance and music will join the festival in these 15 cities.
The weekend will witness cultural performances, yoga practices, yoga workshops, Indian folk art Henna, food festival and screening of Bollywood movies in 15 major cities throughout Hungary all open to the public, free of cost.
