9 killed by lightning in Bihar

At least nine people were killed and several others injured by lightning and heavy rain in north-eastern districts of Bihar on Sunday.

The north-eastern districts, including Purnea, Araria, Kishanganj, Katihar, Madhepura, Saharsa, Supaul, Khagaria witnessed heavy storm laden with rainfall, while the lightning killed nine persons, claimed officials.

The storm also damaged standing crops and thatched roof houses, while the damage was yet to be gauged.

Expressing deep grief, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced compensation to the next kin of the deceased families.

Nitish Kumar directed the concerned officials to make an arrangement for adequate medical treatment for the injured. He also announced to gauge the estimated loss for compensating them.
