The timely onset of winters has brought cheers among hosiery manufacturers. At the same time, retailers also feel elated and are expecting a good sale of hosiery items during the winter season.

But there are others, who still feel that the impact of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and demonetisation is serious on the mind of buyers as they want to spend money wisely now.

Akash Bansal of Rage Knitwears, the manufacturer of women garments (hosiery goods), here said, “Buyers in the retail market are under a lot of stress. We cater to women segment. And they have started spending money wisely post demonetisation. Earlier, there was no dearth of money, but last year during this time, women exchanged all their savings with new currency in majority of cases. Either they got less amount in return or no money at all.”

“Today, women spend only when they have to. The garment industry is a major sufferer. In the years to come, very few will be able to sustain,” he added.

Another manufacturer of hosiery goods, Sudershan Jain of Oner, however, said they expected business to get a boost in the coming days as it had already started picking up momentum.

Buyers say there is a chill after rains in this part of the region. “The smog has gone and there is chill in the air, which means we need to wear woollens. We have already started purchasing warm clothing for children,” said Manju Sharma, a homemaker.
