Warm welcome to MAKA Trophy at Ramgarhia College

It was a proud moment for Ramgarhia Girls College, Miller Ganj, Ludhiana, as the College welcomed Maulana Abul Kalam Azad trophy in the college campus. Panjab University, Chandigarh, has bagged MAKA Trophy after 13 years and this is the 14th time the university has proudly lifted this.
Gurcharan Singh Lotey, General Seceratery, Ramgarhia Educational Council, Principal Inderjit Kaur accompanied by Rajeshwarpal Kaur, head, Department of Physical Education extended a hearty welcome to the procession. Addressing the gathering, Inderjit Kaur said, “Bagging the MAKA Trophy is indeed a cherished moment not only for the university, but also for the college as well, as the college is one of the participant colleges.
She further added that she would like to term it as a remarkable achievement. This shall have a great impact on the sports enthusiasts. S Parminder Singh Ahluwalia, Directorate of Sports, PU, Chandigarh said this would be a great milestone for all sportspersons. “It is a great honour not only for PU but also for the whole of Punjab,” he said. Dr. Rakesh Malik, Deputy Director of Sports, PU, Chandigarh, congratulated the affiliated colleges, their participants faculty, students and the university Sports Department for their sincere contribution.
Similarly, the corridors of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, were vibrant with the beats of dhol as celebrations of MAKA (Maulana Abul Kalam Azad) trophy took place in the college campus here today. Dr. Parminder Singh Ahluwalia, Director Sports and Dr. Rakesh Malik, Deputy Director Sports, Punjab University Chandigarh along with their team brought the prestigious trophy to KCW.
Teja Singh Dhaliwal, Senior Vice President, Basketball Federation of India and Honorary General Secretary of Punjab Basketball Association extended a warm welcome to the guests with the trophy on their arrival.
Punjab University Chandigarh came out victorious after a gap of 13 years when the Selection Committee for sports 2019 announced the winner for best all round performance in sports among Indian Varsities for the year 2018-2019. MAKA Trophy was instituted by the Union Ministry of Education in 1956-57 and is awarded by the President on National Sports Day. The University will be lifting this Trophy for the 14th time with a tally of 11,540 this year.
It was a proud moment for KCW as the various teams such as Judo, Shooting, Kayaking, Karate, Canoeing, Athletics and many others made a huge contribution in making this victory happen. The players were all beaming with joy and danced to the beats of Dhol. Celebrations came to a culmination on distribution of sweets and fruits among all.
Guru Nanak Girls College welcomed the prestigious MAKA Trophy for sports with full zeal and enthusiasm. Panjab University, Chandigarh started a procession on winning Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad (MAKA) trophy after 13 years.
MAKA trophy was conferred by Hon’ble President of India, Ram Nath Kovind on the occasion of National Sports Day at New Delhi on 29 August. MAKA trophy has been lifted by Panjab university, Chandigarh for the best all round performance in sports among Indian university for the year 2018-19.
