Two arrested with 1-kg gold

Khanna: The Khanna police arrested two persons and recovered a gold brick weighting 1 kg from them. The accused have been identified as Manav Kapoor and Arun Sharma, both residents of Ludhiana. SSP Khanna Navjot Singh Mahal said a police party led by DSP(I) Khanna Ranjit Singh and Doraha SHO had laid a naka near Doraha Bridge. They signalled a car coming from Khanna side to stop. On being searched, the police recovered a gold brick from the pocket of Manav’s coat. Both occupants failed to show any document about the gold. As per preliminary investigation, the accused said they were courier suppliers and had brought the gold brick from Delhi and were to deliver it to some jeweller in Ludhiana. As per the SSP, a DDR was registered at Doraha police station and the police have informed the Income Tax Department for further action in this regard. OC
