With Shakti Nagar Chowk, near Green Field, on Kochar Market Road witnessing frequent accidents, residents have requested the Municipal Corporation (MC) to make it a safe zone. The local residents as well as shopkeepers have claimed that around four accidents take place at the chowk every month due to “improper” design of this intersection.

The residents have also signed an application seeking urgent redressal of this problem, that will be submitted to the MC authorities and the Traffic Police.

A speeding vehicle rammed into an electricity pole and a telephone pole a few days ago. Besides, a man suffered severe injuries in another mishap recently, said a group of residents.

Harbans Singh, a shopkeeper said: “Many persons have been severely injured in road mishaps here. We witness accidents at the chowk every month due to its faulty design.”

“The authorities concerned should inspect the intersection and take requisite measures to prevent accidents here,” he said.

A resident of Green Field, Vineetpal Singh Monga, who is also co-convener of the social media cell of the BJP, said: “An application signed by the residents will be submitted to the MC authorities and the Traffic Police officials, seeking construction of a roundabout here. A truck coming from the Kochar Market side rammed into a telephone pole and an electricity pole. It also damaged the guide map board of Green Field Colony.”

The civic body should install a multi-lamp light at the chowk to increase visibility. Besides, speed limit boards, warning signs and reflectors should be installed here, the residents said.

Gulshan Kumar, a shopkeeper, said: “I have witnessed many people getting injured in road accidents here. Either a roundabout should be constructed or traffic lights should be installed here. It is our request to the authorities concerned to take requisite steps to prevent mishaps here.”

The MC Superintending Engineer (SE), Pawan Sharma, could not be contacted.
