Novel on social realities released

A Canada-based author Harkirat Kaur Chahal released the novel titled “Bohran De Phull” at the Punjab Agricultural University here on Friday.

The novel captures different aspects and social problems of Punjabi society. Set in the backdrop of 1984, it deals with the issues including, preference for male scion, racism and gender equality.

Chahal said, “Earlier, the preference for the male child drove villagers to ‘buy’ women from the eastern states who were termed ‘kudesan’ in the rural set-up. She has also highlighted a preference for the male child prevelanent in our society. Chahal said that writing has become a method to connect with people and soil.
