Mahajan Club scripted an emphatic victory by 72 runs over Coaching Centre in the U-14 final to lift winners’ trophy in the Cricket Tournament for Mahajan Trophy that concluded at GRD Academy on Hambran Road here on Sunday.

The tournament was organised by the Ludhiana District Cricket Association (LDCA), an affiliated body of the Punjab Cricket Association, to provide its trainees match practice and prepare them for future competitions.

Four teams in the U-14 category and three teams in the U-12 section competed in this tournament which was started on October 30.

Yesterday, in the U-12 group, Samrat Coolers XI had defeated Ludhiana Club by 17 runs to emerge champions. In the final (U-14), batting first, Mahajan Club scored 148 runs for the loss of six wickets in 40 overs. Karanvir Rana was the top scorer who made 44 runs, followed by Sukhsehaj and Rohan Gakhar who scored 25 and 12 runs, respectively.

For Coaching Centre, Sidarth and Shivansh Rana captured two wickets each while Vnsh Goel and Jugraj claimed one wicket each.

Chasing the target, Coaching Centre was bundled out for 76 runs in 23.1 overs and thus surrendered meekly. Dilkash Ansari contributed 23 runs and Sidharth Sharma chipped in with 17 runs.

For the winning side, Anmoljit Singh was the main wicket taker, scalping five victims for 17 runs, whereas Yuvraj, Karanvir and Mankaranvir took one wicket each.

Harveen Bhardwaj, Additional Session Judge; Amrinder Singh Malhi, SDM (West), Ludhiana; and BK Mehta, Session Judge (Retd); were chief guests at the prize distribution function.

Anmoljit Singh was adjudged the man of the match and Sidharth Sharma was declared the best batsman while Rohan Gakhar was named the best all-rounder. Besides, Vansh Goel and Sandeep Mor were declared the best bowler and best wicket keeper, respectively, while Vivek Pandit was adjudged the best fielder of the tournament.

All participants were given mementoes in addition to bats and track suits to encourage them. The office-bearers of the LDCA and parents of the cricketers were also present at the prize distribution function.
