Jarkhar Academy, Ghawadi School enter hockey semis

Jarkhar Hockey Academy and Ghawadi School in the junior section, while Azad Club of Hathoor in the senior section, have recorded victories in their respective matches to enter the semifinals of the ninth Olympian Prithipal Singh Hockey Festival at Jarkhar village, on Saturday.

Matches in the week-end tournament, organised by the Mata Sahib Kaur Sports Charitable Trust, were played under floodlights at the Astroturf Stadium of Mata Sahib Kaur Sports Complex, Jarkhar.

In the junior section (U-17), Jarkhar Academy defeated Sant Fateh Singh Hockey Academy, Dholan, by 5-2, while Ghawadi School warded-off stiff challenge from Rampur Hockey Academy before wrapping up the issue with 2-1 to secure berths in the semifinals.

In the senior category, the match played between Azad Club, Hathoor, and Young Club, Utala (Samrala), turned out to be a well contested affair. The two sides were tied 3-3 at the end of the second quarter, but Azad Club managed to sneak past 6-5 to clinch the cliff-hanger.

Gurjot Singh Laddy scored four goals for the winning side that sealed Young Club’s fate.

In another match in the senior section, Neeta Club of Rampur outplayed Shaheed Udham Singh Club of Sunam by 5-2 to make it to the last four.

GS Gill, AIG, and Prabhdeep Singh Nathowal, District Public Relations Officer, Ludhiana, along with Charanjit Singh Grewal (UK), and Gurpreet Singh Bedi, president of Hockey Club, Samrala, were the guests of honour.

Prof Rajinder Singh, Jagmohan Singh Sidhu and Jagroop Singh, organisers of this festival, presented siropas to the guests. Harmail Singh, Gursatinder Singh Pargat, Resham Singh Hathoor, Ravinder Singh, Lakhbir Singh Jarkhar, Sohan Singh Shankar , Jagdev Singh and Soma Singh Ghulal were also present on this occasion.
