Government Girls’ School wins title

Hosts Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Gill village, overwhelmed BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, 13-2 to clinch the title in the Ninth Junior Ludhiana District Baseball Tournament here today.
Earlier, in the semifinal, Government Girls School warded off stiff challenge from Guru Nanak International Public School before scraping past narrowly 1-0 to secure a berth in the title clash. The all-important run was scored by Sonia.
In the second semifinal, BCM Arya Model School, too, survived many anxious moments against Government Senior Secondary School, Kasabad village, whom they eventually overpowered 2-1 to set up the summit clash with school girls from Gill village. Sonal scored a brace to steer her side to victory.
However, the final turned out to be a mismatch as Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Gill village, faced a semblance of resistance from BCM School players as the former came out victorious easily by 13-2. Sonia and Rupinder Kaur contributed two runs each in winner’s tally. Rupinder Kaur was adjudged the best player of the tournament.
The match for hardline cup, played between Government Senior Secondary School, Kasabad village, and Guru Nanak International Public School remained unresolved as the two teams were tied at 2-2. Both teams were declared joint winners and shared the trophy.
Advocate Bhag Singh Bhatti gave away prizes to the winners. Sukhdev Singh Aulakh, honorary secretary, Ludhiana District Baseball Association, and its organising president, Harbir Singh Gill, were also present on the occasion.
Principal of the host school, Ravinder Kaur, along with Amarjeet Singh, Baljit Singh Gill and other office-bearers of the organising association attended the prize distribution function.
Meawhile, matches in the boy’s section commenced today at Government Senior Secondary School, Kasabad village. In the first match, BCM Senior Secondary School beat DAV Club by 12-4. Ramit and Kaushik scored two runs each for the winners while Lakshay and Anmol were the scorers for the losing side.
In other matches, Teja Singh Sutanter Senior Secondary School thrashed Guru Nanak Senior Secondary School, Janta Nagar 7-0; Guru Nanak International Public School defeated RS Model Senior Secondary School 8-0 and DAV Public School beat BCM Club 6-0.
