Dhoke promoted, Gill to replace him as CP

Sukhchain Singh Gill will be the new Commissioner of Police of Ludhiana. He will replace RN Dhoke, who has been promoted to the rank of ADGP. Dhoke has been given the prominent posting as ADGP, Security, Punjab.
Gill was DIG Crime, with additional charge, of Patiala Range. Gill also remained the Chandigarh SSP. He also served in Ludhiana as SSP when the Commissionerate system was not in place. Gill, a 2003-batch Punjab cadre Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, has an MBBS degree from the Government Medical College in Amritsar.
Dhoke, who had joined as CP of Ludhiana on April 24, 2017, spent almost a year in the city and his was the considerable time on this post. Dhoke is a 1993 batch IPS officer, who was IGP (Headquarters) before his appointment as CP, Ludhiana. Dhoke took several welfare measures for the police force. Starting meditation classes was among the prominent initiatives for the force and more than 1,000 policemen took meditation training. Dhoke recently started a survey among the police women to know their job satisfaction in policing or to inquire if they face any sort of harassment. However, the survey is yet to be completed.
Dhoke had remained a non- controversial police officer during his almost one-year tenure in the Ludhiana Commissionerate.
15 Ludhiana CPs since 2010
Since 2010, when the Police Commissionerate system was launched in Ludhiana, the industrial town has seen 15 police commissioners taking charge here. Gill will be the 15th CP of Ludhiana. Some officers were not even allowed to complete the required term as per the police norms.
