Shyam Benegal honoured at MIFF
Filmmaker Shyam Benegal has been conferred with Lifetime Achievement Award at the 15th Mumbai International Film Festival. Week-long festival showcased 430 documentaries, animated and short films from 40 countries. Veteran filmmaker was honoured for his outstanding contribution in the field of feature and documentary films. The award, given to Benegal by Maharashtra Governor Vidyasagar Rao, carries a trophy, a citation and cash prize of Rs 10 lakh.
The filmmaker has made 28 feature films including landmark films like Ankur, Nishant, Mandi and Junoon. His work also includes 41 documentaries covering diverse subjects including cultural anthropology, sustainable growth, biography, art and culture. His 1982 documentary Satyajit Ray won the National Award for Best Biographical Film, while his 1985 film Nehru won the award for Best Historical Reconstruction.
