Celebrating multiple roles

Rajwinder Kaur Bajwa, a physical education teacher with Kaintal School Senior Patiala, would vehemently give a firm ‘no’ as an answer to anyone who would ask her about acting or dabbling in theatre since her husband is one actor and programmer.

But little did she realise that something that started as a one day arrangement would actually make her a popular YouTube and television personality. Rajwinder in her free time hosts show Babe De Chulha for K TV Global, which has now made her a popular face in London. “I never considered hosting as an option, because I felt I wasn’t cut out for it. So, when I faced camera for the first time, I was literally shivering. But then, soon I was talking to the camera.”

He experience as a teacher helps her be a good host. “Teaching means I have to interact with students, I have to keep them engaged in the subject and this is what I do in front of the camera, keep the audiences engaged,” adds Rajwinder, who is all thanks to her husband, Gurpreet Bajwa, Palwinder Kaur, her mother-in-law, her kids and most importantly her principal Rajinder Kaur Virk, “I sound so filmi, but trust me, I wouldn’t have been able to sustain this new-found interest had one of them decided to pull back support.”

In her show, Rajwinder takes the audiences into the heart of rural Punjab. Ask her if she wants to take it as full-time profession and she smiles, “I love teaching, I don’t think I will ever leave this.” Well, never say never. TNS
