The dashing actor, Nikitin Dheer, known for his role of Tangabali in film Chennai Express is now receiving accolades for his character of Veer Pratap Chauhan in the show Ishqbaaaz. With this new show, Nikitin has proved that he is here to stay. He shares with us his journey and much more…

What made you say yes to the character of Veer Pratap Chauhan?

This character has a twist. He can be called the modern day Raavan. The lead couple of Annika and Shivaay has been living separately from their family (vanwaas) and that is when my character enters as their friendly neighbour. The story and the dialogues that we get are a lot of fun to act.

How does it feel to be a part of Ishqbaaaz?

The team of Ishqbaaaz; the cast, my co-actors, Nakuul Mehta and Surbhi Chandna along with the producers are extremely forthcoming and good at their job. And when you are creatively satisfied, you tend to work a lot better.

What do you have to say about the bridging gap between films and TV?

I am glad about the way two mediums are not a separate entity anymore. Today, be it TV, films or the digital platform, there is work for everybody and more over there is a lot of new content with a lot of variation coming in, which makes the process a lot of fun. Having been in this industry and done films and television, today I can definitely vouch for the fact that the gap between films and TV is diminishing and a lot of new content is emerging.

Did you always want to be an actor?

As a child, I knew my father is a famous personality. And today when I hear him being called a veteran, I feel extremely proud. I am in this industry because of him and I genuinely hope to reach a point where I can be half as successful as my father in doing the kind of substantial work he has done in his career so far.

Don’t you feel typecast when people remember you for the negative roles that you have played on-screen so far?

People always remember me for my work and there is no better feeling for an actor than that.  Even though I have played majorly negative roles, the fact that each of them has been distinct from the other is the reason why I played the part.  I enjoy variety and I am glad that each of the characters that I have played have helped me perform better and challenged me as well.

Who’s the better actor between you and Kratika?

I feel blessed to have Kratika as my wife. We both are good and enjoying our lives happily.

What are your plans for future?

I am currently busy with Ishqbaaaz. Meanwhile, I am in talks for a few films and shows as well. Whatever works out, will be for the best and I hope I get to do prominent roles and some good work this year as well.
