Celebrating Guru Nanak
Dr. S S Bhatti, former principal of Chandigarh College of Architecture, has, so far, authored close to 30 books. All of those accomplishments that cannot be summed up in one sentence are a result of his mind that constantly questions God, himself and society. He approaches everything to satisfy both the scientific as well as philosophical reasoning. His latest book, Guru Nanak Dev—Dispenser of Love and Light, is all about Guru Nanak Dev ji, the first Guru of Sikhs, his teachings and his intentions for the human kind.
Bhatti says, “I have also enclosed 45 of my sonnets to help the reader interpret the Gurbaani. With my experience and what I have learned so far, I was able to complete the book and get it published in a short span of four months. The idea occurred with Captain Amarinder Singh’s speech about how this year is about Guru Nanak Dev ji.”
His architectural knowledge enabled him to interpret Japji Sahib as a sculpture that he made with the help of computer imaging (also available in the book). Bhatti says, “The seven chakras we say exist are all within 18 inches which is nothing but a miniature or replica of the cosmos. My understanding says the steps that we have to take to follow our religion are vertical and that is what I have tried to represent through that image.”
And what is the biggest takeaway of his teachings, Bhatti answers, “I hope readers will be able to comprehend that their thoughts, words and deeds should gel well with each other.” —TNS
