Actor Pooja Sharma, who plays the role of both Kaali and Parvati in the show Mahakaali – Anth Hi Aarambh Hai talks to us about her journey in the show, how she unwinds after a hard day at work and what women empowerment means to her.

How has the role of Mahakaali added to your career graph?

Mahakaali has been a blessing to my career. The show has topped the rating charts and strengthened my position as a performer. I have received a fabulous response from the audience and industry alike. I am glad I did this show.

You have successfully carried the show on your shoulders.

I feel lucky that I was chosen for this role. It tested my capacities in all ways possible, but I am happy that we emerged victoriously. It gave me an immense range as a performer and I am thrilled with the response. I am more confident as a performer now.

You must be into the character every day, so how do you unwind when you get out of that character?

As soon as I sit in the car post pack up, I play crazy, energetic Bollywood music to literally shake myself out of the character. Also, whenever I get to come back to Mumbai (since we shoot in Umbergaon), it’s refreshing to meet all my friends and go for dinners and watch movies.

What is the highlight of your routine?

Actually, reporting on the shooting floor and meeting the entire cast and crew and the fun interactions we have while creating some very good work is the highlight of being part of this show.

What do you do in terms of fitness?

I would like to do a lot of yoga. As of now, I do it sparingly or not at all, but I plan to take it more seriously. I just keep thinking of exercising than actually doing it.

What do you love to eat?

I love eating everything. I am quite a glutton. Right from Chinese to Italian to Indian to pani puri, I like everything. The list is long.

People talk about women empowerment. Express your views on the same.

See, I have grown up in a family where there was never any discrimination between boys and girls. I was always loved, nurtured and adored. This nurturing gave me a lot of strength. So, I feel women empowerment starts at the family level.

What is the best compliment you have got for the show?

I think when Mahakaali initially started, I remember a lot of people including my writer Utkarsh sir, had to clarify on social media that it is the same girl playing both Kaali and Parvati. A lot of people thought it was two different people. As an actor, I was very excited to portray this range between the soft and vulnerable Parvati to the ferocious and powerful Kaali.

Don’t you miss doing a typical soap?

I have done some wonderful roles. I am very satisfied with the work that I have done. But having said that, I am open to working in all genres.
