Rrupaali Gupta is a producer in the male-dominated Punjabi entertainment industry. After the success of her first venture, Mr and Mrs 420, Rrupaali is now back with the sequel of the film Mr and Mrs 420 Returns. Being a woman in an industry where women only get to either design clothes or do make-up or dance around the trees, Rrupaali has taken up this challenge head on. The pretty lady, besides producing the films, also makes her acting debut in the film. Here, she talks her mind...

Okay, why production?

I have been associated with the industry for a long time now. I have done modelling and acting and then I thought why not produce a Punjabi film, after all it’s our language. Also, I wanted to have a check (read control) on all the departments because I am well versed with music, art, fashion, and acting.

If not a money bank

I would have been an actress, period!

Bring on the challenge

Putting together things is the most difficult task. Selecting people based on one’s instinct, people who are positive one needs in this field. Once this is settled the work flows.

People’s reactions

(Laughs) All said and done, I still feel that women are respected in our country, at least in the industry. On the sets if no one is listening, just ask a woman to give the instructions, you bet everyone will listen up!

I enjoyed

The entire process of making the film, starting from script reading session to casting and then the final shooting.

I am wife & a mother

I had to play a balancing act, thankfully my husband my parents and my in-laws supported me in this. I didn’t have to worry about anything. Besides, 90 per cent of the film was shot during my kids vacations. I do not disturb their routine.

A dream team

I have already worked with the best people in the industry and in the near future, I will be working with more. We will soon start shooting for my third film with Tarsem Jassar and Neeru Bajwa. After this there is another film lined up with director Smeep Kang. So, I am already working with the best.

Winner all the way

The entire industry is like a family, and since I am the only woman producer, I think I am already a winner and I have no competition.

Facing the camera, again

I have faced the camera before, but it has been a long time. In Mr and Mrs 420 Returns, I play Gurpreet Ghuggi’s wife.
