Comedy, action or entertainment— make your choice
Khandaani Shafakhana
The big Hindi release of the week is the Sonakshi Sinha-starrer Khandaani Shafakana, a comedy drama that follows a woman, who runs a sex clinic and has to face many obstacles of the society conservative towards women. Directed by Shilpi Dasgupta, the film also stars Varun Sharma, rapper Badshah and Annu Kapoor.
Sonakshi, the star
The film is watchable solely because of the performance from Sonakshi. She plays the role to perfection and holds the film together. The supporting cast is also fun to watch, especially Badshah.
— Ananya Kaura, LLB student.
A slow watch
The film’s first half is very slow and even though the action picks up in the second half, I had lost complete interest by then. Had it not been for the charming cast, it would have been an unwatchable film.
— Abhiraj Singh Rainal, Law student PU.
Endlessly boring
There is very little that generates any interest in the film, which is just a very long and boring journey with few meaningful scenes here and there. Shafakhana is a proof that you need more than a novel idea and good cast to make a film work.
— Vaibhav Kumar, lawyer Chandigarh High Court
Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw
The latest entrant to the Fast & Furious Franchise, Hobbs & Shaw hit the theatre screens this week amidst much ballyhoo. The film is directed by David Leitch and stars series leads Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. The film follows the unlikely allies who are forced to team up against a greater threat who is threatening the world with a deadly virus. Idris Elba, Vanessa Kirby and Helen Mirren also star in this spin-off.
Action-packed affair
It is remarkable that the franchise keeps improving on their predecessors in terms of the action content. Hobbs & Shaw is no exception with one top-notch action sequence after the other, which is extremely fun to watch.
— Varsha Sharma, History Department, PU.
A happy fan
As a long-time fan of the franchise, I came in with a lot of expectations and was not disappointed. The film is everything that the franchise has come to be known for. The action, thrill, stardom of its leads, it was all there and I am happy about that.
— Tamanna Dafraik, student PU.
Mindless fun
The film is high on action, but the narrative never really engaged me all that much. Nevertheless, it was good fun and that’s more than what I expected from the film.
— Jasmeet Kaur, student MCM DAV
Sikander 2
This Friday also saw the release of Kartar Cheema and Sawan Rupowali-starrer crime drama Sikander 2. It is helmed by actor-director Manav Shah and in his second feature film venture.
Worth the time and money
The film worked for me in every aspect. The story and action was great and the cast also did a very good job in their respective roles. Cheema and Guri, in particular, were at the top of their game.
— Prabjot Sandhu, agriculturalist.
A family entertainer
It is a great film that you can watch with your family. While there is nothing that you haven’t seen before, you will never get bored while watching the film.
— Kamal Rana, businessman.
