Raksha Bandhan was celebrated throughout the Jammu region with fervour on Sunday. 

In Jammu city, the day began with festivities as people were seen thronging markets to purchase rakhis (threads) and sweets to be exchanged among friends and relatives. 

At Ambphalla Home for Aged and Infirm, Raksha Bandahan was celebrated by occupants who tied threads to idols of Lord Krishna. 

SOS Children’s Village, Jammu, also celebrated the festival as many people from different walks of life visited the centre at Channi Himmat and distributed sweets among children. SOS is a voluntary organisation which works for children who are orphaned, abandoned or whose families are unable to take care of them. 

While young people celebrated the occasion by visiting homes of relatives and exchanging sweets, children enjoyed the day by flying kites. 

Many people put up sound systems on their rooftops and enjoyed the beats of songs while flying kites. 

Many trade associations and other organisations put up food stalls to serve Dogri food on the occasion. 

Raksha Bandhan is observed on the last day of Hindu month of ‘shravan’, which typically falls in the month of August.
