Ladakh receives season’s first snowfall
Leh, January 9
Ladakh received the winter season’s first snowfall late Tuesday night, bringing a major relief to people, particularly farmers, reeling under dry weather.
Though the snowfall in low-lying areas lasted for just a brief period, it ended the long dry spell in the region. The upper reaches of Ladakh received light to moderate snowfall. The mountains around Leh were completely covered with snow, lending a picturesque setting to the area.
Sonam Dolma, a farmer in Leh, said farmers had held special prayers last week in Leh town for snowfall. “The snowfall has brought cheer to farmers as they have been longing for snowfall and a green summer ahead.”
Meanwhile, the cold wave continued unabated in the region with Leh town recording -9.9°C. — OC
