‘Gandhian philosophy more relevant in recent times’

The Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Sanjeev Verma, today said the Gandhian philosophy had become more relevant in recent times. He stated this during a programme held at Dewan-e-Aam Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex, here, where he was present as a chief guest.
The event was organised to pay rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary.
The programme began with floral tribute being paid to Mahatama Gandhi by the chairman, Gandhi Global Family, Sobha Ram, and other dignitaries present there.
Speaking on the occasion, The Divisional Commissioner highlighted the importance of inculcating values of Gandhian Philosophy, especially among the younger generation, for a peaceful and healthy future. He appreciated the efforts of every department and organisations for spreading awareness on the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan’.
The self-cleanliness and clean surroundings is of paramount value which was exercised by Mahatma Gandhi, he said and informed that several initiatives had been taken by the Administration to eradicate menace of plastic use.
On the occasion, the participants took pledge for maintaining peace, harmony and brotherhood, besides contributing in making India a clean and healthy nation. A cultural programme was also presented by students of various schools and colleges.
