Jammu, October 14
Over 3,000 students of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Jammu regional centre, have finally started receiving study material via the post.
The Tribune had on September 12, 2018, carried a story that the IGNOU students had not received study material and they were facing problems as the exams were scheduled for December.
Students from hilly districts of the Jammu province were the worst sufferers as they had not received a single book.
The IGNOU head office had in July 2017 decentralised the distribution of study material at all centres across the country.
“Yes, most of the students have received the study material and are attending classes at the regional centre,” an IGNOU official said.
“The cases of non-delivery of study material had mostly come from hilly districts of the Jammu region where it was difficult to locate the address of the students. But the issue has been sorted out,” the official said.
“I received the study material a few days ago. The classes are being held at the Directorate of Distance Education, University of Jammu,” said Radhika, a postgraduate student of IGNOU.
