The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday received another setback after its senior leader and party’s face from central Kashmir, Javed Mustafa Mir, quit.

“I have resigned from the party and will submit a formal resignation on Sunday,” Mir told The Tribune.

He, however, did not divulge his future plans. Mir is a three-time MLA from central Kashmir’s Chadoora constituency and his exit from the party is a major setback to the PDP.

Mir is the fourth former minister to have resigned from the party after the collapse of the PDP-BJP government. The former ministers who have resigned from the party include Haseeb Drabu, Imran Ansari and Basharat Bukhari. Two former MLAs have also resigned from the party.

Mir belongs to a political family. His father, Mir Mustafa, was a two-time MLA. Javid Mir served as the Minister of State for Power in the former PDP-Congress government. He was first elected to the Assembly in 2002. He was a Cabinet minister in the PDP-BJP government which fell apart in June last year. —TNS
