Police hold flag march, raise security

Arpit Shukla, Police Commissioner, Jalandhar, today held a meeting with officials of the paramilitary forces to assess the security arrangements in view of the Assembly elections.
Shukla asked them to tighten vigil to prevent any untoward incident during the elections. He also assured them of full cooperation. The police, along with paramilitary forces, carried out a flag march in the city and checked documents of various vehicles.
The teams also went in the inner city areas including Gurmandi, Basti Adda, Ram Nagar, Phullan Wala Chowk etc. The police have also tightened vigil in the entire city. Special focus is being laid on police stations to counter any attack like that in Dinanagar.
Phagwara: A flag march was carried out today by the police, including senior officials like Superintendent of Police Harwinder Singh Sandhu and Deputy Superintendent of Police Dev Dutt Sharma, to instill a sense of security among the residents.
After the announcement of the code of conduct, four companies of the CRPF have been deployed- in areas that come under the jurisdiction of the City, Satnampura, Rawalpindi and Sadar police stations.
Senior police and district administration officials today held meetings to devise a strategy for the next month in view of the coming elections. Vehicles are being searched to check the movement of anti-social and anti-national elements during the elections. Entry and exit points in the city have been sealed and nakas are being laid in various areas.
Flag marches were conducted at Banga Road, Subhash Nagar, Hargobind Nagar, GT Road, bus stand, Sarai Road, Railway Road, Gaushala Bazar, Sarafan Bazar, Bazar Bansanwala and Mahabir Bazar, Satnampura and dozens of villages of Phagwara sub-division.
Superintendent of Police, Phagwara, Harwinder Singh Sandhu said the flag march was conducted to instill a sense of security among the people and thwart all attempts by the anti-social elements to disturb peace. He said patrolling had been intensified and entry and exit points sealed.
Sandhu also said that most weapons had been deposited with the police.
