One-week course on industrial engg begins at Dr BR Ambedkar NIT

A one-week course on ‘Industrial Engineering and Future Factory’ was started by the department of industrial and production engineering of Dr BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology today.

As many as 50 participants have registered for the course across the country. The main goal behind stating the course is to make the participants familiar with the recent paradigms and the important tools and techniques used in the industrial engineering.

The contents of the course includes, simulation modelling for industrial systems, role of industry 4.0 in the present scenario of manufacturing and service sectors, concepts of lean manufacturing and six sigma implementation in the industry for creating an edge in the cut-throat competition and global challenges.

Eminent speakers from the industry and academia will deliver the lectures and provide hands-on practical experience to the participants.

Director, Prof L K Awasthy apprised the participants of the challenges faced by the industries and the lack of aligning the curriculum with respect to the ever-changing demand of the industry.

Prof Awasthy put forward the fact that the new generation of young technocrats of minds are witnessing a drift in the fields of employment, half decade back they could not envisage that the job opportunists in the field of data science would be such rewarding. Thus in future also the students are required to move into the fields which they have might not have come across yet. He congratulated the coordinators of the programme for designing such an exhaustive programme for the benefit of academia and industry.

The coordinators Dr L P Singh and Dr Kapil Kr Goyal detailed the course contents and deliberated the importance of the programme specifically for bridging the gap between the industry and academia.

The chief guest Prof Rajeev Tripathi, Director MNIT Allahabad, raised the concern on the technical skill acquired by the engineers in traditional teaching learning process. He mentioned that the curriculum and industry requirement is still to be aligned and emphasised on the amalgamation of different technical streams on a single platform to tackle the ever-changing demand of the customers. The technological development must be in sync with sustainability of manpower and environment.

The Guest of honor and speaker of the day Sunil Chore, Country Head of Indiasoft Technologies Pvt Ltd emphasised on the need of developing the models to handle the critical activities of shop floor for the efficient and effective functioning of the industry.

The coordinators mentioned that they have tried to bring a healthy blend of experts of latest areas in the Industrial Engineering, which are sought by the industry for implementation. The experts who will be delivering their expert lectures in this course includes; Prof Inderdeep Singh (IIT Roorkee), Prof T P Singh (Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala), Prof K S Sangwan (BITS Pilani), Prof P C Tewari and Prof Ajai Jain (NIT Kutrukshetra), Dr Neeru Kapoor (Scientic E, DRDO), Prof Harwinder Singh (Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana), Prof Arvind Bhardwaj, Dr Ajay Gupta, Dr L P Singh, Dr Kapil Kr Goyal (NIT Jalandhar).
