Science City gets ready for visit by students

Started with the aim of promoting scientific thinking among the students, the second phase of the Mukh Mantri Vigyan Yatra was restarted on Monday.
Under the first phase, which started on May 16, as many as 7,000 students viewed scientific models at Science City, Kapurthala. During the second phase, the remaining students from government schools shall visit the Science City.
Director General of Pushpa Gujral Science City and Deputy Commissioner, Kapurthala, Jaskiran Singh made the observation after reviewing arrangements made for the visit of the students.
While the programme had previously been stalled due to the ongoing summer holidays, the project has been started again under Education Minister Dr Daljit Cheema. As per the programme, as many as 27,000 students shall visit the Science City until August 4.
Every day, at least one bus, carrying 50 government school students, shall be visiting the Science City from across 22 districts of the state as part of the project. Hence, in a day, 1,100 government school students shall visit the Science City.
For government school students independently visiting the science city as well as for government school students, there shall be 50 per cent discount on the visit.
Under the officially sponsored visits, the students of government students are taken to the city free of charge.
Sources in the Education Department said, “A schedule is sent to the manager of the roadways department as per which the manager is informed about which students shall be picked up from which school on which day. The visits are totally free of cost.”
Speaking on the occasion, Jaskiran Singh said on the one hand, people of the state were being brought closer to religion and heritage with the religious yatra started by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, and on the other, to promote scientific thinking among the students, a plan to arrange the visit of about 4.50 lakh students to the science city has been envisioned.
Arrangements at the Science City for the visits of these students have been completed.
The Science City DG said the government’s aim is to ensure that all students from government schools in the state must visit the Science City at least once a year.
Dr Rajesh Grover, Director, Science City, said a whole lot of new attractions are coming up this year. This includes the innovation hub. Robotic dinosaurs with moving eyes, mouth and neck will also be installed soon at Science City. “The wild America National Park Adventure” will also be screened later this year, Dr Rajesh Grover added.
