In order to give a lush green look to Fruit and Vegetable Market and New Grain Market of the city, the Punjab Mandi Board will plant 100 saplings besides ensuring its proper upkeep at the mandis in the coming days under the ‘Tandarust Punjab Mission’.
Starting the plantation drive, District Mandi Officer Varinder Kumar Khera said the sole aim behind the drive was to ensure that mandis in the city should develop as a clean, green and pollution free city.
He said under the drive main thrust would be laid on plantation of traditional plants adding that priority would also be given to plantation of medicinal plants like Arjun, harad, bahera and others, so that environmental pollution could be checked through greenery.
Khera said they had located the places where these saplings would be planted adding that the main focus of their organisation would also be on ensuring proper maintenance of these plants, so that they bloom into full trees.
He said to achieve this goal the officials had decided to personally volunteer to monitor these trees by adopting them.
