When the AIMC chief Shobha Oza was asked why former Punjab Mahila Wing president Kittu Grewal was removed from the post and Mamta Dutta was appointed in her place, she replied, “We appoint presidents of such wings as per their capabilities. Kittu could not produce the output which was expected from her being the chief of the Punjab Mahila Congress wing, so she was required to be removed.”

She evaded a reply when asked why Kittu did not attend this crucial political meeting of the Mahila wing. Supporters of Kittu reportedly raised a hue and cry at the meeting today on the issue. However, they were pacified by leaders there.

Terming it all foul, Kittu said she was removed without prior notice when she had completed only one year and seven months on the post which is otherwise meant for three years. “I have worked diligently for the party all this while. It was I who appointed Jasleen Sethi and Kamaljit Multani as the district president of the District Mahila Congress urban and rural, respectively. Today, they did not even have the courtesy to invite me. All this has happened because of the caste I am associated with,” giving a stronger twist to her story.

A Valmiki leader, Kittu has applied for ticket from the Kartarpur constituency, where from Chaudhary Surinder Singh, son of former minister Ch Jagjit Singh, is also a candidate.

Jasleen Sethi said, “I tried Kittu ji’s number thrice, but it was not getting through. In any case, she was aware of the visit of national president and could have come over on her own. Her close aide Ranjit Kaur too did turn up. There were other local leaders, including men, who came uninvited on just getting to know about her visit.”
