In a comedy of errors, the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation has issued birth certificate for a date that falls much ahead of the actual date of birth. The parents came to know now, only after six years, when the school where the child was taken for admission, pointed out the clerical mistake. The child, Tejvir Saini, has now been denied admission as the parents missed the admission deadline.
According to Harjit Singh, the child’s grandfather, Tejvir was born on August 30, 2009 but the MC had mentioned the registration date as August 3 in the same year. “Also, the date of issuing the certificate was mentioned as August 21, 2009,” informed Singh, who retired as a railway traffic manager from Ferozepur division. He said with three different dates, the school authorities were confused and initially denied Tejvir admission considering it to be a fake case. “It was only when I requested them that they gave me a chance to rectify the clerical error committed by the MC,” said Singh.
Following this, Singh contacted Surinder Saini, a city-based child rights activist who later met the MC officials and got the error rectified on Thursday.
