Despite the Swatch Bharat Abhiyaan, residents of Phagwara are facing much inconvenience due to foul smell spreading from garbage oustide the old post office road which connects the old town of Phagwara and its markets with posh localities of the town like those of Hargobind Nagar. Even employees of the Municipal Corporation use the place for dumping the garbage. Interestingly, none of the candidates of any political party bothered about the problem or initiated to shift the garbage place from interior town to an outer place.

This garbage dump is located near a religious place, and also has three schools and a marriage palace near it. Thousands of school children, devotees of religious shrine, people attending functions in the palace, besides pedestrians visiting market, have to walk with covered face and closed nose. Although road shows or small rallies of all candidates passed on this road, but candidates had no spare time to pay heed to these problems of the people.
