Baisakhi, the festival marking the onset of wheat harvesting, was celebrated with great fervor and enthusiasm at Cambridge International School. The purpose was to make the students aware about the historical background, significance and relevance of Baisakhi. The students offered their prayers to God for the beginning of the new year through a shabad. They brought about the tragedy of the Jallianwala Badh massacre and the values of Khalsa Panth through their poems.

State Public School

State Public School, Jalandhar Cantt, celebrated Baisakhi with great fervor and enthusiasm. A special assembly was held to mark the occasion. The children of classes nursery to IInd dressed in traditional Punjabi attire. The young performers presented cultural dances and bhangra Students from classes IX to XII took part in a turban tying competition. In this competition, Jaskaran Singh of class XII stood first, Gagandeep Singh and Ramanpreet Singh of class XII stood second. The function was culminated with the encouraging words by the principal of the school, Mrs Savina Bahl, as she applauded and showered her blessings on the students.

Manav Sehyog School

The students and staff of Manav Sehyog School celebrated Baisakhi festival with enthusiasm on Tuesday. The members of heritage club organised a special Morning assembly. The students recited a shabad and highlighted the historical background of the festival in Punjab. Shubhampreet Kaur recited a poem while Punjabi folk dance presented by senior girls was the main attraction of the assembly. Principal Rajni Sharma wished all the students on the occasion and emphasised the significance of the festival.

Students placed

St Soldier Group of Institutions held a two-day job fair. On the second day of the fair on Wednesday, two major recruiters, HDFC Bank and Raps Itek, conducted a placement drive for the students of MBA, MCA, Polytechnic, Diploma holders, BTech and other graduates. Prof Manhar Arora, managing director, HDFC Bank, took an online test of students for the job profile of Business Development Executive. The online test comprised of general aptitude, general knowledge and basic banking knowledge. The test was followed by personal interviews and in that process, recruiters shortlisted 18 students at the package of Rs 1.8 lakh. Raps Itek shortlisted 27 students on the basis of an aptitude test, technical test and personal interviews, at the package Rs 2 lakh. Chairman Anil Chopra congratulated the students on the occasion.

Extension lecture

An extension lecture on Botany and Environmental Science was organised by the Department of Science of Kamla Nehru College for Women, Phagwara. Prof Avinash Nagpal, director, Human Resource Development and senior professor, Department of Botanical and Environmental Sciences, Guru Nanak Dev University; and Dr Jatinder Kaur, assistant professor of the same department, addressed the students on the occasion. — TNS
