Govt school in Samba to get boundary wall after decades

Government Middle School at Sangwal in Samba district will finally have a complete boundary wall soon as the construction work is on. The school had no boundary wall since it was established in the 1950s.

Officials said though a portion of the boundary wall was completed around eight years ago, it did not deter cattle from nearby areas from grazing at the school ground.

The Tribune had carried a story on December 14, 2017, on poor infrastructure in government primary and middle schools in the Jammu division. The story had a mention of the Sangwal school.

Three government schools with poor enrolment — Primary School, Salmeri, Primary School, Gapwal, and Primary School, Pekhdi, were clubbed by the authorities with Government Middle School, Sangwal.

“We are happy that our school will finally have a boundary wall. The construction is going on at a rapid pace,” said Mohammad Iqbal, principal, Government Middle School, Sangwal.

“Not only the boundary wall, but the school has also got new desks for the students. The damaged water pipes have been repaired. As far as the leaking roof of two classrooms is concerned, we are hopeful that it will be resolved soon,” said Mohammad Rafiq, a teacher at the Sangwal school.

“We have also been informed that the state-run schools at the primary and middle level in all districts of the region are now getting basic facilities like boundary walls, electricity, safe classrooms, adequate desks, toilets and drinking water facilities in a phased manner,” he added.

As per official figures, of the 12,252 government schools in the Jammu region, 7,363 are primary schools and 3,791 are middle schools.
