Srinagar, October 27

The National Conference today demanded a high-level probe into allegations of corruption against Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh.

NC chief spokesperson Aga Syed Ruhullah, in a statement, demanded a probe into allegations that the Deputy Chief Minister had tried to award Rs 700-crore solar power project to a Chennai-based firm without tendering procedure.

Ruhullah termed it a “shocking revelation that was indicative of deep, systemic patronage to corruption” by the state’s PDP-BJP government.

“When the Power Secretary apparently refused to follow the illegitimate verbal orders of the Deputy CM, he was transferred. One can only imagine what is going on at the lower levels of the government, when the Deputy Chief Minister himself is involved in an alleged scam of this size and with such brazenness,” Ruhullah said.

He claimed there was “wanton corruption” in all the departments and “undue and illegal favours” were being doled out by Cabinet ministers.

“The Chief Minister’s office is completely silent on these reports. It is a sign of the Chief Minister’s tacit approval or his involvement. We demand a thorough and transparent probe into the matter,” he said.
