The Dogra College of Education organised a mehndi competition on the college premises on Thursday on the occasion of Karwa Chauth. Students of BEd (Semester-I and III) participated with enthusiasm. They created beautiful designs on different themes. The competition was held under the supervision of Amarjeet Kour, lecturer in education. Asima Kosar, Anu Bhagat and Sonia were adjudged first, second and third, respectively. Students and all the faculty members were present in this competition. Dr Shefali Sharma, academic coordinator and Indu Puri, senior lecturer of Dogra College of Education were the judges in the competition. 

Certificate distribution function

The Sanskrit Department, University of Jammu (JU), in collaboration with Millennium India Education Foundation (MIEF), New Delhi, on Thursday organised a certificate distribution function for the participants of Sharada Lipi Learning Course. Prof Manoj Dhar, JU Vice-Chancellor distributed certificates to the participants after successful completion of the course. Prof Dhar in his address exhorted that more efforts should be undertaken to revive and propagate the ancient script. Dr Uday Kakroo, Director Millennium India Education Foundation, said the need was to learn Sharada script with utmost dedication. He also apprised the participants that all efforts were being put to create employment in this field so that more and more students started taking this course seriously.

Rangoli contest in school  

Shiksha Niketan School, Jeevan Nagar, organised a Rangoli competition under the supervision of Harish Sharma, incharge of the high wing. Four students from each section of Class VIII participated in the competition. All the participants exhibited talent by decorating beautiful rangolies in different styles and colours. Later, the principal of the school, Rameshwar Mengi, and managing director Rakshan Mengi felicitated the winners.

Essay writing at Princeton academy

Princeton English Academy, Garhi (Udhampur), on Thursday organised an essay competition. Students of the academy participated in the event with enthusiasm. The students who were adjudged the best performers included Tripti Jamwal, Sharuti Sharma, Vanshav Singh Bali, Suhani and Rudransh Singh. The management of the academy appreciated in the competition. 

Assistant professor awarded

Jammu has received the best research paper award in the recently concluded fifth J&K Agriculture Science Congress. The theme of the paper was "Climate Change Management for Sustainable Agriculture, Livestock Farming and Ecological Development" The award was presented by Prof Nazeer Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST- Kashmir and Prof KS Risam, Vice-Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu. The event was attended by more than 300 delegates from across the country.
