Karan Singh’s elder son Vikramaditya joins Cong

Vikramaditya Singh, former leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the elder son of veteran Congress leader Karan Singh, on Thursday joined the Congress in the presence of senior party leaders.

Vikramaditya, who resigned from the PDP last year, on Thursday said he had joined the Congress to “fulfil the hopes and aspirations of the people of the state”.

“I had quit the PDP because I felt the party was not able to deliver on its promises,” said 54-year-old Vikramaditya, who also happens to be the son-in-law of late Congress leader Madhav Rao Scindia.

Vikramaditya met Congress chief Rahul Gandhi earlier in the day after which he formally joined the party at AICC headquarters in the presence of party general secretary Ambika Soni, former J&K Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, and J&K Congress chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir.

Vikramaditya had joined the PDP in 2014 and was nominated a member of the Legislative Council in 2015.

“I resigned from the post of MLC in October 2017 due to serious differences with the BJP-PDP coalition government headed by Mehbooba Mufti. The government failed to fulfil poll promises to the people and address other issues, including rising divisions among the three regions of the state,” said Vikramaditya whose father Karan Singh has been associated with the Congress for over half a century.
