Senior actress Sushmita Mukherjee has been a known face on TV since a long time. Currently, she is seen in the role of a strict widowed matriarch in the new serial Gangaa. She talks about her role and more.
Your role in Gangaa resembles that of Dadisaa in Balika Vadhu. Do you agree?
Well, the production houses of both shows are the same so perhaps people connect the two characters. As well as the fact that both characters are strict and deal with a young girl.
But isn’t the role of Ammaji a bit too harsh?
Yes, I do share my concerns with the production house. She is rigid and difficult, but soon a situation will arise that will break her mould.
How is the girl who plays Ganga?
She’s a doll and a good performer. We are good friends. She is a big dadi who talks all the time!
Do we need to see such realism on TV?
I feel rules and regulations give you discipline and make you strong. Today parents are busy working and don’t give enough time to their kids. There should be balance in everything.
Which role in your career has given you most satisfaction?
Kab Tak Pukaroon, a show that I had produced in 1988 for Doordarshan. It had Pallavi Joshi and was based on a book.
