UNA, September 25
Rail traffic was restored on Tuesday evening on the 50-km Una to Amb-Andaura broad gauge section after it had to be shut last night due to a landslide. A portion of the hillock adjacent to the track near the Una railway station had fallen on to the track.
However, passengers, who had their tickets booked in Himachal Express and Jan Shatabdi trains, were a harassed lot as they had to rush to Nangal Dam to board the trains. On Monday night Himachal Express, which starts from Amb-Andaura to Delhi via Una at 8.15 pm, began its journey from Nangal Dam. Similarly, Janshatabdi Express, which starts from Una at 5 am for Delhi, was cancelled on Tuesday. It was rescheduled to start from Nangal Dam at 5.25 am.
Another train, the Amb-Andaura to Ambala passenger train, which starts from Una at 1.30 pm, was also cancelled. This train too began its journey from Nangal Dam.
Superintendent of the Una railway station, Bikram Singh Chauhan said debris had fallen on the tack at two places in Malahat village due to rain.
Chauhan said the track has now been cleared and it has been opened to traffic.
