KANGRA, November 28

National Organ Donation Day was celebrated at Dr Rajinder Prasad Govt. Medical College at Tanda yesterday and the Department of Ophthalmology organised two events.

Dr Anil Chauhan, Principal, today said a poster-making competition and a ‘Run for eye donation’, in which students and staff participated, were organized. The need for public participation in organ donation was highlighted during the programme.

Principal Dr Anil Chauhan gave away the prizes to the winners of the event. Arun Gautam and Aishwarya won the race in the men and women student category.

The institution is in the process of setting up an eye bank for which registration of donors was being done. The corneas of a deceased can be retrieved within 6 hours after death and can be used to give sight to two persons who have corneal blindness, Dr Chauhan said.

Dr Chauhan said two faculty members were got trained from AIIMS in dealing with the eye bank and the bank will be in operation by the end of next month.
