Street play contest at Loreto Convent
An inter-school nukkar (street play) competition was held at Loreto Convent Tara Hall in which six schools took part — St Edward’s, Convent of Jesus and Mary, DAV New Shimla, DAV Totu and Stokes Memorail, besides the host Loreto Convent. Loreto Convent Principal Sister Nirmala said the main objective of the competition was to make the youth aware about conserving precious resources and making them realise their importance in daily life. A message to save nature, environment, flora and fauna, rivers and forests was conveyed through the plays.
Interaction session for NCC cadets at Sanjauli College
The Centre of Excellence, Government Degree College, Sanjauli, Shimla, organised an interaction session for NCC cadets in which Commanding Officer Col Sumeet Shankta, 7 HP (I) COY NCC, interacted with the cadets. Col Shankta is an alumnus of the college. In this session, cadets were informed about various programmes run by the NCC to develop their personality. He also motivated the cadets to be determined and hard working. Students were motivated to work hard to be achievers in their life. He said positive thinking was the most important way to fulfil one’s dreams. Principal Dr CB Mehta was also present on the occasion.
Sacred Soul student wins silver in weightlifting
Bhart Bhushan of Class 11 of Sacred Soul Cambridge School, Rod (Nurpur), has won a silver medal in U-19 state-level weightlifting championship (Boys) organised by Himachal School Sports Association. The competition was held from October 1 to 4 at Government Senior Secondary School, Guglara, in which 1,200 students contested from across the state. Bhart Bhushan has been selected for the national-level tournament to be held in Patna, Bihar, in December. Principal Tarsem Kumar Sharma and Chairman Jagdish Singh applauded the efforts of coach Anupam Sharma and Bhart Bhushan and wished him good luck for the upcoming competition.
Lecture series on ‘Drug-free Himachal’
A lecture series on “Drug-free Himachal” is being organised at the Centre of Learning, Government College, Sanjauli, Shimla. As part of the series, Jyoti Sharma Bhardwaj, a social volunteer and writer from Palampur, made students aware about drug abuse. She warned students against yielding to peer pressure besides making them aware about the harmful effects of drugs. A skit was also performed to reiterate the message. Hans Raj Negi from DIET, Shimla, presented a report prepared by the Ministry of Human Resource Development on Himachal being a high risk state for drug abuse.
Tattoo show at Lawrence School
A tattoo show was presented by students of Lawrence School, Sanawar, Kasauli, as part of its Founder’s Day celebrations. It was a smattering of music, dance, mass PT, gymnastics, high-horse and bugle band performed in the military traditions of the school. The show culminated with a variety of folk dances, depicting different nuances of cultural art. Headmaster Vinay Pande read out the annual report. A concert was also held in Barne Hall. A bilingual drama “Three Short Stories” based on “The Transistor” by Shahnaz Bashir, “Haath Peele Kar Doh” by Gulzar and “The Living and the Dead” by Rabindranath Tagore was also presented. The foundation stone of a new girls’ dormitory was also laid on the occasion.
