Solan, January 25
The hill towns of Kasauli, Solan, Barog and Dagshai received the season’s first snowfall on Friday morning as the residents woke up to witness a white mantle.
Local residents as well as hoteliers were elated as they were waiting for this bonanza since December. With a sizeable snow settling on the hills, the green hue was transformed into silver though the people shivered with a sudden dip in temperature.
The cold wave intensified in the district with this snowfall as people remained confined to their homes though tourists from Chandigarh and its surrounding areas did make a beeline to hills.
Traffic moved at a snail’s pace on roads as they became slippery. With hailstones and rain continuing to pour intermittently throughout the day, brief sunshine during the day failed to provide much-needed relief to the people. Kasauli and Dagshai witnessed a temperature of 4 degree C each, while in Solan it stood at 11 degree C during the day.
Several private buses remained off the road on the rural routes due to the extreme cold weather.
