The temple is located at an altitude of 3,200 m. Devotees have to cover nearly 8 km steep incline to reach the temple. There has been a trend for centuries that on the fulfilment of their wish, devotees offer cash, gold and silver ornaments to the deity, which are later immersed in the Kamrunag lake.

According to locals, issueless couples visited the temple in large numbers to seek his blessings.

Rajiv, a local resident, said every year, thousands of people thronged the temple to witness the three-day fair after completing an arduous journey on foot. On the fulfilment of their wish, they made offerings to the chief deity.

He said no one knew how much cash, coins, gold and silver jewellery were settled at the base of the lake every year.

However, no one could steal the offered jewellery and currency as these were protected by the deity, he believed.

Earlier, there was the tradition of animal sacrifice during the fair, but after the High Court ban, the practice was stopped.
