Manali, Dalhousie reel under biting cold

The local MeT office has predicted wet spell in the region from January 31 till February 2 and on February 4 and 5, warned of hailstorm in lower areas and heavy rains and snow in middle and higher hills on Thursday.

Higher reaches and tribal areas experienced mild snowfall. Biting cold wave conditions continued unabated in the tribal areas and mid and higher hills of Himachal.

Dalhousie recorded 4 cm of snow followed by Kalpa 1.4 cm. Shimla witnessed traces of snow. Keylong in tribal Lahaul and Spiti district shivered at minus 14 degree C while Kalpa recorded a minimum temperature at minus 6 degree followed by Manali minus 2 degree, Dalhousie 1.3 degree and Shimla and Dharamshala 2.2 degree C each.

As many as 276 roads are still closed out of which 164 are in Mandi zone. As many as 51 roads would be opened by tonight while 81 roads were slated to be opened for vehicular traffic by tomorrow.
